It's all the rage to pick out the flaws and inconsistencies in USA Political promises/democracies and realities, read a little of British Imperialism and we'll see that democracy likewise has a 2nd role to other needs and desires of the British Empire.
Apparently this attitude towards 'democracy' seems to be encroaching on Australian politicians, according to the Sydney Morning Herald's Alan Ramsey's article "Stop the presses: the story Rudd tried to kill." and a subsequent reply from Kevin Rudd's office posted at "Rudd denies trying to suppress story."

The article that brought the heated discussions? "A disputed eviction and a tale of family honour"
"Margaret would always have known at some point, inevitably, an incoming farmer would have to occupy the farmhouse.
"But provisions were put in place by our father for Margaret. He explained to her she could remain on the farm, at no cost whatsoever, until such time as the new farmer arrived.
"What Kevin has always failed to state is that the new farmer didn't even arrive until July - that's almost six months after his father's death. During that entire time, our family continued to run the farm," Mrs McCahon said.
"There was absolutely no reason for them to have left until the new farmer arrived in July.
"To continuously say he was evicted immediately after his dad's funeral is quite an unbelievable statement.
It is true that the public is ultimately to pay for what they allow their politicians to get away with. So, if we blame the Americans for letting their President lie about "Weapons of Mass Destruction." that have never been found, then in some part, the Australian public will have to bear the blame if they allow Kevin Rudd to become leader of the country.
What has Kevin Rudd done wrong in the above linked stories? After all, it is a politicians duty (?) to redefine history as they see fit ? Couldn't this be for the national interest ?
If Mr. Rudd presumes that bullying is OK when he is in opposition, you must wonder what things will be OK when he has greater power. If Mr. Rudd has no fear of reprisals from a large news organisations such as the publishers of the Sydney Morning Herald, what do you think he's going to care about your opinion when he decides to deny your civil liberties.
In just a few pages he shamelessly brands the editors and reporters of the articles liers, restates that his former landlord's relatives are liers, and that in this case his conduct has been impeachable.
Australians be afraid, be very afraid.
