Was bouncing around the radio dial, by not being on AM but FM, and fell across this English broadcast that eventually turned out to be Radio Australia (http://www.radioaustralia.net.au) with a 24/7 broadcast giving those in the Pacific current events news from an Australian Government(?) perspective.
Reminds me when I used to spend hours on the shortwave radio trying to get the world news through either Radio Australia or the BBC Broadcast.
If you're in Tonga and you hit those dull moments on 103.7 AM A3Z Radio Tonga, then hop the dial to Radio Australia on 103 FM. Of course if you're a music fan as opposed to news / talkback then just avail yourself of the hip-hop three stations on Tongatapu or the Radio One FM in Vava'u.

According to http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/tuning/tonga.htm the broadcasts are through partnership with Radio Tonga (Tonga Broadcasting) and you should be able to recieve the program in Vava'u through Vava'u Broadcasting Company.
If Tonga Broadcasting has been promoting this service, I hadn't really heard of it before but it is a great escape during the day when fai ee polokalama ako 'a e fanau iiki.
