A new phone for a new phone company

Telecommunications

It's the holiday season, so what's to do but do some online shopping over at Amazon.com.

Here I am wandering around when I think it's a good time to get a replacement phone for the cordless we have at the house. As is the wont of these things, it just doesn't want to charge again, and we have the option of buying new batteries and seeing if that is the problem (i.e. battery is bad) or whether it is only the symptom (i.e. base charger is bad.)

OR ...

We can buy a new phone.

So here I am at Amazon looking at this Panasonic KX-TG5240M (i dont' know why) when I'm finally hit on the head with reality!!!

The stupid phone line hasn't been working for over a week, what the hell good is getting an expensive phone for a dead phone line.

[update #1]

Actually got a ringing tone on their fault report line (917) whereas last two times I tried it was always busy (either a lot of people reporting faults or someone leaving the phone off the hook?) Unfortunately it must be lunch time (2:20pm) because I've had the phone ringing out (i.e. no-one picking up the phone) three times in a row.

[update #2]

Hurrraahhhh I get through to a human (or some facsimile)

Other Side: Hello

Me: Hi, can I report a problem with my telephone please

Other Side: What's the number

Me: Uhhhh 21-750

Other Side: What's the problem

Me: Uhhhh since last week the phone has been dead ...

Other Side: Please, let me check with the Engineering Department

Me: Uhhhhh

Other side: Hangup

Me: [Thinking into the dead connection] Uhhhh, how are you going to tell me what's happening with my phone if you can't call that number above.

Oh well ...

Just to keep things in perspective, at least we've been having electrical problems as well. The only thing that seems to not have fallen over in the past six months is the water.
