Shoreline really pulled a fast one there.
In a surprising move, Shoreline CEO Soane Ramanlal announced through a 'Press Conference' that the Crown Prince has directed that Shoreline offer the Tonga Government return of the Power Production and Distribution services at a fair price to be set by a reputable independent evaluator of the cost of the equipment acquired by Shoreline and the cost to servicing it's loans indebted to the acquisition of these facilities.
The great tactical move in this announcement is that it now really puts the protestors on the back foot, who is going to pay for an expensive evaluation team to come and assess Shorelines physical assets. Let's see, get an expensive accounting firm (example given by Soane include: KPMG) and get a team down here who can actually do the evaluation: top accountants, top generator people, top power distribution people, ....
Tonights news broadcast sought a response from 'Akilisi Pohiva (#1 People's Rep for Tongatapu) one of the organisers for the coming march, and depending on which side of the political fence you're sitting will determine your view of his sitting on the fence on the issue. A cautious wait and see for more details was 'Akilisi's answer, practical but it didn't come out too good.
