Christmas without lights

Soap Box

Light's out for most of the country for half the day today (Monday).

I guess that's not so bad a thing since it forces some of us out into the sunlight and all that's purported to be good for you. Unfortunately it was a serious problem for some of us who really had to get some facsimiles/emails through. Recovery in some areas was to make international phone calls.

The other major problem of that power failure, was when it came back up and not all those comptuers came back up neatly. Thankfully most of the servers I know of came back to life without a hitch.

The power people promised that all the work would be done and out of the way with the power outage on Sunday, so either some people were asleep on the job or a non-staffing related issue caused them to pull the plug on the country for the better half of the day.

Remember: If the power goes off in your house, turn of the power to your appliances at the power outlet, or unplug things if you must.

We turned off the power to our refrigerator, the computer, and the cordless phone. When power came back up, O4 made the trip back to the house to turn the refrigerator back on.

Dead. Unfortunately the power-block that had the air-conditioning hooked to it didn't recover, so that's in the trash. YES, we have air-cond' at the house, but it only gets turned on when we have visitors from foreign lands who can't deal with our local humidity heat levels.

Anyhow, the power-block may have died earlier, but it seemed awfully co-incidental to die at this time when we're expecting visitors and just after the power died for the country.
