Robert Scoble says that your not conversationally blogging until you have three ingredients in the mix of your soup.

  1. Ease of publishing.
  2. Discoverability. (Pings weblogs.com or technorati or another ping server).
  3. Conversationality. (Trackbacks or as-they-happen referer logs, or now being part of Technorati and other blog search engines).
  4. Linkability. (All posts should have permalinks).
  5. Syndicatability. (All content should be available in RSS feeds).

I wouldn't doubt him either, but this along with MSN Spaces/Messenger Gleam seems like two exciting things to help us share/communication/conversate(?) I wouldn't doubt his FIVE points either, as he seems to be one of the "in the know" on this topic. But I first used MSN Messenger Gleam just two minutes ago, and that's real exciting stuff.

I came across Gleam by mischance reading the SpaceInCase blog. From the Microsoft Site.

When a person changes his or her MSN Spaces site, the MSN Messenger Contact icon will gleam next to the user tile to notify his or her contacts on MSN Messenger that the MSN Spaces site has been updated.

I personally use an RSS Aggregator called Abilon, which doesn't seem to be available online anymore, to keep track of sites that I wish to visit regularly. Unfortunatley, I don't know of any other Tongan's online who uses an Aggregator. Likewise, it is hard to find Tongan sites that have RSS Feeds, so you can forget to check a friend's site for updates.

If you're an MSN Messenger aficionado, you really must visit http://www.mess.be and their FAQ on the topic.

In the screenshot below, you can see that Jonathan Kay has updated his MSN Space (insider note: with a blog about how one of his organs got stolen by the Yakuza). When you left-click the icon in front of a nickname, the contact's Contact Card will appear and try to connect to his or her MSN Space in order to show the first few words of the latest post.

MSN Messenger Gleams when my online friends update their MSN Spaces blog/photo albums etc. That's WOW!! Factor. I can now quickly go over there and disfigure their space with choice words of my own!!!

Because I'm running MSN Messenger, I don't have to login to MSN Spaces and when I'm ready to comment it has already preset in the comments that it is coming from me (no more hiding 8) Greater ease of use, YES!!!

Now, just think about it!!!

If all our local --> online publications had some sort of similar technology, then all those readers out there will know immediately when the latest gossip is going out whether it's through some RSS Aggregator or something simple like a "Gleam" with their MSN Messenger.

More Reason to be hanging out on MSN Messenger.

Oh yeah, the other great thing ? Messenger on the Web!! Here in good old disconnected Tonga, there are just times when no matter what you try you cannot connect your IM client, but with the website http://webmessenger.msn.com/ you can check you contacts and chat away.
