Key things that grabbed me when I first saw this movie.

  • It's got Pacific Islanders all over the place. I think there's one white guy in the movie. (Support the local bro's)
  • Good plot
  • Beautiful scenery

This movie came up again on Tonfon and I still haven't seen it from the beginning so I guessed at parts of the story until I read the 'spoiler-review' mentioned above.

OK, so it was real cool to have the bro's/sisters in the movie and there are some scenes that are probably adaptations of the written-story that is funnier to real Pacific Islanders.

Some positive Pacific Islander characterisations, role models.

The main characters are all fairly ethical, intelligent, articulate.

We live in a beautiful place that looks real great on film.

Great opportunity for Pacific Islander actors, not American Negroes pretending to be PIs.

Some funny, non-pacific scenes.

1. Matapule or Lead Hand is seen sitting at a desk under a hut on the beach. That's a real laugh, like who's going to be sitting at a desk/table on the beach unless its for drinking? The best position to be in at the beach is either in the water or on the ground.

2. When the main character goes courting, all the girls break off their current 'engagements' and start the 'hunting' process. The reverse of what usually happens?

There's more but that would really spoil the broth.

Tonfon was showing The Legend of Johnny Lingo, again tonight/hengihengi

Got to see a little bit more to the beginning of the film, and got to see what the actual relationship between the lead and Mahana

Unfortunately, I couldn't control myself so it's time to do something else, since the movies finished. Still a good movie and more touching this time as I've seen more of the beginnings.
