I've been copying a few scenes off the video camera onto the laptop, and these laptop drives are not the fastest so I have been worried about dropped scenes from the process. I don't have a massive video editing setup, so it is all amateurish but it would be nice for fewer problems.
Michael Patten posts a method of being notified for dropped frames during video imports "Show dropped frames during capture."

10/12/2006 9:08 AMBy default, the Video Import wizard does not display the number of dropped and captured frames. In most cases, this is not needed because Video Import implements a record queue that buffers incoming video data before being encoded and frames are rarely dropped. In some cases though, you may still wish to display this information. By editing the system registry, the number of dropped and captured frames can be displayed.
The following is the registry key to add:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftCapture WizardWindows ® Video Capture Wizard]
"Show Frame Count"=dword:00000001
The easiest method to add this registry is to copy and paste the above text into notepad and then save the file as ShowFrameCount.reg. Next, double-click on the saved file and confirm you wish to add this information to the registry.
Now, where did I put that camera ?
