Mr. Ma'u Havea of the Squash Council said in an interview with Television Tonga that things are going just hunky-dory (thank-you) with the Squash season even though reports (hearsay?) is questioning whether there will be enough shipping available for the growers produce due to a new shipping arrangement by the Squash Council.
Ma'u Havea mentions that the only confirmed quantities have been from the 5 members of the council and there is enough shipping. Which I guess seems to say something like, if you aren't a member of the council (i.e. not one of the five growers) then we really have no idea how you're going to get your produce out the door because our new shipping arrangements is specifically quoatered for our numbers?
The 2nd more interesting point that came out of the interview was his mention that there will be no increases to the quotas for producers as there has consistently been shortages of quotas in each season. But, that quota may be changed once arrangements for the South Korean market are resolved season 2006.
Hello, Good-morning ???? If we can't meet quotas for our current market, then pray tell me how we're going to increase our production because now we have a bigger market for produce ? Why the squashed oranges did the government pay for Council members to go to South Korea when (a) the deal was already brokered last year by the previous Minister, and (b) they can't grow enough for the Japanese market ?
Something sounds fishy with the Squash Council and it aint all rotten hina.
