Stand up and be counted - do good, watch a MOVIE

News

Fund Management's Star Cinema finally opened and a very good surprise it was for those who had the opportunity to escape at a wonderful new movie theater/cinema.

As you'll note from reports elsewhere on the web, the cinema is part of the complex of facilities provided by Fund Management in the heart of Nuku'alofa. The architecture is quite 'modern' for downtown Tonga with significant open space outside.

The Movies

The movie selection seemed pretty good, although one of those movies just aired on Tonfon Television a couple of nights ago, it was a good movie. Brothers, they came to bury their mum and her killers.

"Doom" is one of their current showings, the poster wasn't very revealing but I think the screen-play is based on that FPS Doom computer game that cost many hours of sleep and jump started a new gaming industry.

The other two movies was a teen flic (Babe Watchish) and an Indian film. For those who can't find a film valid for their children, there's always the fall back to the Indian film.

The House

Sounding as if I've been invited inside, but I haven't, and impressions from what I've seen on the local news and in discussions with those fortunate enough to go. (I'm scheduled to babysite sometime soon so 'Ofa can go with the 'girls'.)

The place is very modern and if you've been to the movies recently overseas then you can expect to get the same facilities. The helping hands inside are quite enthusiastic and helpful, definitely a promotion of the customer service provided by Fund Management's other business's.

The Open Spaces

As you can seen in the photos, the outside is quite spacious, and if you have money to burn you can also rent space on the ground floor with some premium retail locations.

The Bad

With the good and great there is always the concern about 'the catch.' The 'catch' in having this wonderful place from Fund Management, is that some of the locals just haven't joined the twenty-first century.

The cinema has a minimal dress code, and most people you see are pleasantly dressed for an afternoon/day/night out. The women/girls always looking nice, and most of the menfolk doing well. There's a few who seem to consider it their God given right to be ugly, dress ugly, and behave ugly. Please find something to do with yourself.

Some of our people just want to trash the inside, with friends saying with disgust how some at least one row of seats was covered with pop-corn and spilled drinks, a clear indication that vandalism for its own sake makes some small minds proud.

Big kudos to Fund Management for this investment in the community, we hope that you can make enough money out of this to keep the place running. Good luck.
