Tonga, and probably a few of those other poorer nations have some rules and suggestions for hospital stay. They serve the purpose of maximising patient recovery while ensuring safety of hospital services.

If you should need to stay at the hospital, here are the things recommended by the Ministry for you to prepare.

  1. White bedsheets and bed cover
  2. Pillow, and White Pillow Case
  3. Small suitcase/bag of clothes and pajamas
  4. Towel with 2 wash cloths
  5. Toiletries
    • Bath Soap
    • Toilet Paper
    • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  6. Cutlery
    • Plate
    • Cup and Glass
    • Spoon, knife, and fork
  7. Drinking Water
  8. Thermos (for hot water)
  9. Small wash tin
  10. Small battery powered radio

Now there are some specific regulations for hospital stay.

  1. Only one bedside assistant is approved
  2. No children allowed in the wards
  3. No mats or brooms (taufale)
  4. No large bed covers
  5. No wall powered electrical appliances (e.g. teapot, fan)

Visiting Hours for Vaiola Hospital are:

Mid-day: 2:30 ~ 3:30pm

Afternoon: 7:30 ~ 8:30pm
