Uike Lotu - Uike Li'aki ngaue

Soap Box
Posted by: Samiuela LV Taufa on January 06, 2006 3:39:48 PM

We have a bit of a problem with our son and attending church services recently.

Our 18 month old seems to be at that stage where they can't sit still for more than 2 seconds in a foreign environment (i.e. he can be quiet, very quiet and settled for long periods at home, but no where else.) Unfortunately that translates to li'aki lotu 'i falelotu. When he's been in church for more than 5 minutes he begins to figet and wants to move around, run, and then the next thing you know is that someone has to escort the young man out instead of his disturbing the whole proceedings.

But li'aki lotu 'i fale lotu also has a partner this week in li'aki ngaue 'i 'api ngaue.

Most of the really churchy people that I know, who are also working in the private sector or government (i.e. our church is still on holidays) find this week one where they either have to take leave or this week where they are taking leave by turning up late to work, leaving early, or just being very inefficient while at work.

Many business' and government take into consideration this week of prayer (feasting?) and allow employees to leave early during this week (i.e. most workplaces close at 16:00.)  To the detriment of the witness of Christians, they are also taking off from work earlier, or just not performing adequately during this week.

Churchy people who also work during this time are just seriously fatigued, let alone committed, to church activities that requires attendance for some from 04:00 am. That's a tall order to have a human being be remotely efficient at either being at church or being at work.

The FWC might just have the right formula, stay away from work to ensure your full dedication to the week's prayers
