bTonga - What is it ?

bTonga is a MoveableType/Metaweblog client for .NET 2.0

which essentially means that if you have installed .NET Framework 2.0 on your machine then this program can be used for your offline creation and management (?) of your BLOGS. MoveableType compatible BLOG/CMS Engines include: Xaraya, Wordpress. We're also supporting Metawebog and appreciate any testing such as MSN Spaces (I can only vouch for these as they are the three I have used, although we would expect it should work with others.)

Requirements: .Net Framework 2.0

Release 0.6.9.7

Binary Installer (.zip) bTonga_0_6_9_7.zip (about 870Kb)

Source Code (.zip) bTonga_0_6_9_7-src.zip (about 1.4Mb)

Enhancements

Recent Posts. Now 'threaded' and using PostID so it is more useable for those with multiple/separate Blogs and who like to cross-post between the different blogs.

MSN Spaces. Category cross-posting works again. It seems that MSN Spaces will return an error message if we post to it with a category that doesn't exist on your spaces.

BUGS

* Hope to support other blog APIs, but don't have access to too many so have no real schedule of when/whether they will ever be adopted.

* URLs to Ping. I don't really know whether it will work since I don't have a server that supports the thing (I think?)

* If you have problems re-installing, 1st uninstall the previous installation. If you want to keep your account settings, then they can be found in the location/information referenced below.

ToDo

* Background upload (ftp.) Code is partially working, but mind is finding it hard to bend the last few metres.

* Background threading, so I can keep the interface updated correctly. This is a big learning curve item since if I knew how to do this correctly then I wouldn't have problems with the point above.

From the FAQ

Q: Where are the Accounts Information Stored.

Q: When I upgrade I lose all my accounts information, can it be restored ?

For the Normal User:

The accounts settings are stored (password is encrypted) in your "Local Settings" folder. The account settings from a previous installation can be copied/moved into the current installation and bTonga will use them when restarted.

Windows XP : For releases prior to 0.7.0 , the accounts information is stored in C:Documents and Settings[UserName]Local SettingsApps2.0Data where C:Documents and Settings is dependent on your Installation configuration (for example it might be D: ...) and [UserName] is your user login or whatever username is used for your Document Settings.

You have to navigate through another four subdirectories to get at where older installations stored their files.

For example : On this installation there are 5XT22GD 498KNZL8 bton..tion_8ce81a4623b0187c Data for a final destination of C:Documents and Settings [UserName] Local Settings Apps 2.0 Data 5XT22GD 498KNZL8 bton..tion_8ce81a4623b0187c Data

For those testing the code in Visual C# Express:

Windows XP: Look for a Directory Similar to that described below:

C:Documents and SettingsUserNameApplication DataUserFullNamebTongaversion-number
