Christianity |
There can be no doubt, on any day in any place, that Christianity has taken a very strong position in the hearts and minds of Tongans. Christianity is so ingrained into society that much of corporate life is guided within the interpretations of Tongans of the ethos of Christianity. By Law, Sunday is a day of rest in which no business transaction is legally binding. Retailers are not allowed to trade, and businesses are not allowed to operate, Sunday is for the purpose of meditation, reflection and worship of God. |

Agriculture Aquaculture |
Befitting an economy dependent on subsistence production (predominantly fishing and farming), Tongans are very involved with their garden plots, the weather conditions and the fruits of the sea. Each male is entitled by law to a plot of land sufficient for planting subsistence crops, and the entrepreneurial. |

Family |
The individual is defined by his family, and the family is defined by the individuals of the family. There is little that can be done in the Kingdom without the need for involvement of the family, whether it be the complex task of rearing of a child or the maintenance of land holdings, a household. |
