The Curriculum Development Unit is responsible for the continuing development of Curriculum material and Curriculum (Syllabus) prescriptions for Primary and Secondary Schools in the Kingdom of Tonga. Funding assistance has been available from the Governments of Australia and New Zealand.
Curriculum material is developed in both English and Tongan, where the English materials are assessed and reviewed by Education Specialists in Australia and New Zealand. Materials are locally developed for both the Primary and Secondary system.
Located at the old Vaiola Hospital site in Kolomotu’a, the Curriculum Development Unit has its own printing facilities for the reams of minute papers, and curriculum material it turns out each year. Most material are developed by internal staff, with occassional materials provided by subject specialists seconded on a project basis.
